Jan Suraaj began as a political campaign led by Prashant Kishor on 2 October 2022. The campaign involved a statewide padyatra and public outreach programme across Bihar. After extensive grassroots mobilisation, the Jan Suraaj campaign was formally converted into the Jan Suraaj Party on 2 October 2024.
